Russell Brand Talks Marriage: 'Monogamy Right Down The Middle'

Russell Brand Says In Marriage, 'Monogamy Right Down The Middle'

Russell Brand may be a notorious flirt, but the 38-year-old comedian swears by monogamy when it comes to marriage. In an interview with "HuffPost Live" Tuesday morning, Brand told host Josh Zepps that as a married man, "monogamy right down the middle" was the way to go.

"I don't think monogamy is an impediment to anything if it's a philosophical choice that you make," he said. "I do query monogamy. It's a very severe state."

He added: "It's a hard-core thing, monogamy. It's a hard-core principle. But beautiful, and to be recommended. And if you make a commitment to it, you've got to do it. When I was married, monogamy straight down the middle. You can't mess around with that stuff."

Brand was famously married to pop singer Katy Perry for just 14 months, from October 2010 to December 2011. He told Esquire U.K. magazine earlier this month that he "loved" marriage to Perry and re-attested the importance of fidelity.

"I tried it and I loved it. I really think she’s a lovely beautiful person. It’s just hard isn’t it? She’s got a lot of options, I’ve got a lot of options, so you’ve got to really, really want it," he told the publication. "When I'm in a relationship I'm diligently monogamous and stick to the principles agreed on within that relationship. You've got to, I think."
