When we first heard about Devious Maids, two thoughts popped into our head: "Wow! This is great. A show with a full Latina cast!" and "Oh boy! What will the critics think about a show full of Latinas based around being a maid?"

But as we got to hear more about the show directly from the five maids themselves -- Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Edy Ganem, Judy Reyes and Roselyn Sanchez -- we started feeling a lot more confident about its possible success.

Many feel this show is highly stereotypical considering it’s about maids. What made you decide this was a role you just had to take?

Ana Ortiz: The opportunity to do some groundbreaking television has never been done with five women, let alone five Latinas.

Dania Ramirez: I personally like sitcom TV to be able to portray characters that I can relate to. My parents moved to the states when I was 6, so I was raised by my grandma in the Dominica Republic, and didn’t see them again until I was 10. [As Latinos] Your parents have to leave their country to come to the U.S. to create a better future for their kids, so I was excited to tell this story.
