Famed Local Restaurateur Arrested

MIAMI, FL -- A well-known former chef and restaurant owner has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a young father last year.

Jonathan Eismann, 52, the man behind such famous restaurants as Pacific Time, Fin and Q, allegedly struck and killed Juan Carlos Ruiz, 29, who was walking near his home at NW 3rd Street and NW 72nd Avenue at 8:47 a.m. on October 10.

Eismann was reportedly driving a Ford Explorer when he and the driver of a Nissan Sentra had an accident. Police say the former chef then attempted to flee the scene when he lost control and struck a utility pole as well as Ruiz, who was standing on the sidewalk.

Ruiz, who according to Miami Herald was father to a one-year-old, was pronounced dead on the scene, and Eismann was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Eismann is charged with vehicular homicide in a reckless manner and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. His bond is set at $16,000.

CBS Miami reports that Eismann turned himself into police.
