Meredith Vieira has signed a deal for a daytime show starting next fall, the New York Times' Brian Stelter reported Tuesday.
Stelter broke the news, tweeting, "Scoop: @MeredithVieira's syndication deal w/NBC is done. She'll start hosting "The Meredith Vieira Show" in Sept. 2014."
The one-hour show will tape in New York City, on a set designed to look like Vieira's home, NBC said on Tuesday. “All of us at NBCU are so excited about this new show with Meredith,” Ted Harbert, chairman of NBC Broadcasting, said in a statement.
Vieira cited her work on "60 Minutes," "The View" and "Millionaire," saying, “All of these experiences, along with being a wife and mom, have led me here because they all share one common denominator… this fundamental need we have to connect with and find inspiration in each other.”
The news confirmed earlier reports that Vieira was in talks with NBC about hosting a daytime show. She left "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" in January, after 11 years as host, and said that she was working on a new project with NBC.
Back in January, Stelter said that the show could potentially air on NBC stations at 11 a.m., opposite "The View" on ABC, or the timeslot currently occupied by “The Jeff Probst Show.” The talks were still in the beginning stages at the time.
Vieira stepped down as "Today" host in 2011, but stayed on as a special correspondent with the show. Tuesday's news means that she joins Katie Couric, whose show has been renewed for the 2013-2014 season, in the daytime market.
