It was an episode of "Catfish: The TV Show" that probably should have never happened. Nev Schulman and Max Joseph were tasked by 19-year-old Ramon with figuring out if his girlfriend of eight months, Paola, was really who she said she was. The couple met on Facebook and he said he was in love with her.
He'd also given her more than $3,000 throughout their online relationship. Of course, Nev and Max uncovered that Paola wasn't who she claimed to be. She was a girl named Loyda who was only pretending to be Paola. But that wasn't the only shock for viewers.
Loyda admitted to the deception, and why shouldn't she? When confronted, she said of Ramon, "He knows my full name, though he’ll probably claim that he forgot. He heard my birthday, he’s seen my driver’s license." Then to Ramon she said, "You’ve seen me! We FaceTimed, we Skyped. You called me by my name before!”
It turns out that Ramon had known Loyda was Paola the whole time, She'd already come clean to him ... multiple times. As Nev put it, Ramon apparently had a very selective memory. He claimed to have no memory of Loyda coming clean, but later admitted that she had. He just didn't want to believe it. Or maybe he just wanted to be on the show?
MTV called the episode "jaw dropping," noting that Nev and Max were understandably frustrated by Ramon's lies -- or selective memory issues. As for Loyda, she is in the process of paying Ramon back all of the money she'd borrowed.
