From the rooftops of Brooklyn to the backyards of Seattle, recreational chicken ranching is increasingly popular in urban and suburban neighborhoods. But it seems it may be proving to difficult for these urban farmers to keep up.
Susie Coston of the Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, N.Y., told NBC News that at least 400 to 500 chickens are being abandoned each year, with some owners even listing the animals on Craigslist. Other animal sanctuaries report similar trends.
