More Than One Wedding: Why Couples Choose To Say 'I Do' Multiple Times (VIDEOS)

For most couples, getting married once is stressful enough. But some brides and grooms are opting to say "I do" again... and again and again.

On Thursday, "Good Morning America" profiled bride Monisha Akhoury and groom Chris Fava, who held three weddings -- two in California and one in New Jersey. Akhoury said that they opted to plan three weddings in order to accommodate her Hindu family, Fava's Catholic family and her and Fava's own personal style.

“It is an extravagant thing to do, but it was done for the best intentions,” Akhoury said. “It was done to make everybody in our family happy, and we accomplished that.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, 15 percent of all new U.S. marriages in 2010 were between spouses of different races or ethnicities (more than double the rate in 1980), which may explain why more couples are choosing to say "I do" several times. For other couples, it can be a simple matter of geography, like this couple who married in Bulgaria and New Jersey after they moved from New York to Germany.
