The Peanut Butter And Banana Hot Dog Sandwich

We're just a little bit scared.

Listen guys, we're all for culinary creativity. We're down with the cronut, and we're into molecular gastronomy. But there are some foods that should not be messed with, and the peanut butter and jelly sandwich just might be one of them. We understand the need to tweak this childhood recipe -- there are days when a regular PB&J would just be one too very many -- and so we welcome sandwiches like The Elvis. But the peanut butter and jelly banana hot dog sandwich (which we'll refer to it as the PB&J dog from now on) has gone too far.

There are times when it's okay to play tricks with your food, like April first (and only April first). You know that if you tried to swap cream filling in a chocolate donut with mayonnaise any other day of the year you could get yourself shot. The same goes for the PB& J dog people. It is a cruel joke and an insult to both PB&Js and hot dogs alike.

We're not denying that the PB& J dog is probably delicious; it has all the right ingredients. But still, its very existence makes us feel a little bit queasy. For one, hot dog buns should only be used for hot dogs (regardless of the fact that they hold bananas perfectly). And second, strawberry jelly should never look like ketchup. While we noticed this sandwich was on the rise on reddit, we hope that it'll quickly and quietly fade away, like Crystal Pepsi did.
