'47 Ronin' Trailer: Keanu Reeves' Samurai CGI-Fest Really Is On Its Way This Time

It's been a long time coming, but the trailer for "47 Ronin" is here at last. The Keanu Reeves fantasy-action vehicle has shuffled through several release dates but is now locked into a Christmas Day premiere.

The movie blends elements of the real-life samurai story on which it's based as well as mythic beasts, witchcraft and the like. Reeves portrays a former outcast who is elevated to head-honcho status after a group of samurai are banished and must battle their way to vengeance. It's a CGI-heavy spectacle that will join the Sylvester Stallone-Robert De Niro boxing movie "Grudge Match," "Jack Ryan" and Ben Stiller's "Secret Life of Walter Mitty" on the Dec. 25 release calendar.

Whether this adventure flick, directed (but not edited) by newcomer Carl Rinsch, will fare the stormy box-office competition come Christmas is a big question mark, particularly considering the instability "47 Ronin" saw throughout production and post-production. We've been hearing reports for quite some time regarding the effort's editing battles and swollen budget, which is rumored to have crossed the $200 million threshold. Check out the trailer and gauge your interest, which will likely hinge on your patience for Reeves' questionable acting skills and your retention for bombastic special effects.
