Joe Scarborough went off on Jay Carney on Wednesday's "Morning Joe," demanding that the White House press secretary answer his question about the IRS' targeting of conservative groups.
Carney appeared on the show, and said that President Obama wants to focus on repairing the economy, instead of the "phony scandals" being discussed by his political opponents.
Scarborough asked Carney if the IRS controversy was a "phony" scandal. When Scarborough pressed him on inappropriate activity at the IRS that seemed to extend beyond the White House's initial claims, Carney said that it was a "line being pushed by Republicans who want Washington to be focused on scandals instead of the economy."
"No, no, no, no, no," Scarborough objected. "Don't give me talking points because that doesn't work on this show and you've been here long enough to know it doesn't work on this show, so answer my question and let's talk about the economy."
Carney began to speak, but Scarborough interrupted again.
"I gave you the question and you decided to fight me, Jay, so stop your games with me," he said. "We've known each other for too long. I'm not playing your games. I'm not someone you talk down to from your podium. Answer my question, Jay."
