Ted Cruz: Republicans 'Terrified' To Fight Obamacare

Sen. Ted Cruz Says Republicans 'Terrified' To Fight Obamacare

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Republicans in Washington can't defeat Obamacare unless they stand together or the American public rises against the law.

In an interview with conservative radio talk show host Dana Loesch on "The Dana Show" Monday, Cruz said Republicans in Washington have relaxed their fight the Affordable Care Act and view the GOP's continuing stand against the law as an uphill battle.

"I think there is a powerful defeatist approach among Republicans in Washington," Cruz said. "I think they're beaten down and they're convinced we can't give a fight. And they're terrified.

"This is our last chance to take out Obamacare," Cruz continued. "And every one of those Republicans who says, 'Let's not fight on the continuing resolution,' what they're really saying is, 'We should surrender to Obamacare being a permanent feature of our economy.'"

Some Republicans in Congress have threatened to shut down the federal government unless the implementation of Obamacare is stopped. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and others are circulating a pledge in which signers agree to oppose any budget bill that provides funding for the health care law.

Cruz noted the importance of Republican solidarity. "If 41 Republicans stand together in the Senate, or if 218 Republicans stand together in the House, we can win this fight," he said.

But Cruz noted that not all Republicans will join. "If the only way to win is to persuade others in the Republican cloakroom, it ain't going to happen because too many Republicans are scared of this fight," Cruz said.

Cruz concluded that the fight against President Barack Obama's signature health reform law will likely be in the hands of the people.

"The only way to win this fight is if the American people get engaged by the millions," Cruz said.
