Al Jazeera America announced on Tuesday that the network will open 12 bureaus around the U.S.

The network will have presences in cities including Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The network also announced the various bureau correspondents.

The New York-based network will launch on August 20. Senior vice president of newsgathering Marcy McGinnis said of the 12 bureaus, "It is critical for Al Jazeera America to have bureaus strategically placed throughout the U.S. so that we can cover the news from wherever it happens."

After a long search, Al Jazeera America named former ABC News executive Kate O'Brian the network's president. O'Brian had been with ABC News for 30 years.
