CNN Host Returns To Airwaves After Double Mastectomy

Zoraida Sambolin returned to "Early Start" on Monday after undergoing a double mastectomy.

"I was blessed with really terrific doctors in Chicago, the incredible support of my family, my family here at CNN, you at home as well, thank you," Sambolin told viewers. "But you know, the hardest part wasn't the treatment. It was figuring out a way to say to two of the most important people in my life what was happening." She recalled what it was like telling her children that she had breast cancer, and interviewed her son Nico about his experience watching her battle the disease.

Co-host John Berman and her colleagues at CNN also gave her a warm welcome back to the show.

Sambolin revealed in May that she had breast cancer and would be undergoing a double mastectomy. Her announcement came on the heels of Angelina Jolie's revelation about her double mastectomy, which Sambolin said gave her "strength" and "an opening" to discuss her own health.

She has kept viewers updated on her progress, and said two weeks ago, "I'm doing really well and I feel strong and healthy."
