First Date Took Place In Very Unusual Location (VIDEO)

You'll Never Guess Where Their First Date Took Place

When dating after divorce, typical outings might include a coffee shop, restaurant or museum. But none of those options satisfied Gene and Julie Gates, the married co-owners of Battuto Italian Kitchen in Dallas.

Instead, the pair opted for something a lot less conventional -- a visit to a therapist's office. Yes, you read that right.

Gene and Julie, who had both been divorced prior to tying the knot, stopped by HuffPost Live on Tuesday and explained their odd choice -- and no, it's not because it's "cheaper than dinner," as Gene joked in the segment.

"I realized that every relationship that I had been in before Julie had ended up being a failed relationship, or one that ended. And what I wanted to do was to create a relationship that I believed would not end," Gene said. "Going to a therapist as a preventive measure seemed like a really sensible idea at the time because any time you get into a new relationship, there are times where it can be difficult ... Having a coach there, someone to help you get through those early times I think was really instrumental in us trying to become closer and trying to work out our stuff."
