Matthew Dempsey, Psychotherapist, Looks At 'Compare And Despair' Within Gay Community (VIDEO)

WATCH: Do You Suffer From This Issue Common To Gay Men?

Psychotherapist Matthew Dempsey, recently released his latest video in a series dealing with everyday issues that affect gay men. In this clip, above, he discusses why they often suffer from what he terms "compare and despair."

While major concerns like substance abuse and HIV often affect members of the gay male community, lesser discussed issues -- like the tendency to constantly compare one's self to someone else and suffering depression as a result -- can also take a toll.

Watch the video above to see if Dempsey's "compare and despair" theory resonates with you and then check out his previous videos, which deal with judgement within the gay community and the need for validation.
