'Girl Meets World' Casts Peyton Meyer As Riley Matthews' First Crush And August Maturo As Her Brother

The Next Cory And Topanga?

A generation of kids fell in love with the relationship between "Boy Meets World's" Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel), and now the Disney Channel's sequel series, "Girl Meets World," has found a couple for the next generation. On Tuesday, the network announced that 14-year-old Peyton Meyer has been cast as Tristan Friar, classmate and first crush of the show's titular "Girl," Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard).

Disney also announced that five-year-old August Maturo has been cast as Cory and Topanga’s youngest son, Louis Matthews. Maturo has previously had roles in "Weeds" and "How I Met Your Mother," in which he played a six-year-old Marvin Eriksen in a flashforward. Teo Halm was previously announced as Riley and Louis' older brother, Elliot, while Sabrina Carpenter will play Riley's best friend, Maya.

In addition to Savage and Fishel, another "Boy Meets World" alum is confirmed to reprise his role in the sequel: William Daniels, who played Cory and Topanga's beloved teacher Mr. Feeny, will appear in the premiere. Other former stars Rider Strong (Shawn), Will Friedle (Eric) and Maitland Ward Baxter (Rachel) also visited the set while the pilot was filming.

At the ATX Television Festival, creator Michael Jacobs described "Girl Meets World" as Riley's coming-of-age story, although he did concede that it will contain nods to the original series. "My feeling is that the premise of the show is about these two girls having a friendship, going off into the world we now know -- ‘Girl Meets World’ will be unique from ‘Boy Meets World’ in that way," he said. "However, it is the child of an original program, and there is no way that I’m not going to include everybody who wants to be included on this piece, because they’re the genesis of the piece. For me, we may build a new house, but we’re building it on ground, and that ground was ‘Boy.’"

"Girl Meets World" is scheduled to premiere in 2014.
