There was no surprise at the top.

Defending champion Serena Williams earned the top seed in the 2013 U.S. Open women's singles draw. Nearly two months after falling in the fourth round at Wimbledon, Williams will look to win her 17th career grand slam. The 31-year-old Williams won the Rogers Cup earlier in August, but was defeated in the final of the Western & Southern Open by Victoria Azarenka, who's the No. 2 seed at the U.S. Open.

Maria Sharapova, who considered going by Maria "Sugarpova" for the U.S. Open, was seeded third. Sloane Stephens, sure to be a fan favorite in Flushing, earned the 16th seed.

Will Serena capture her second straight and fifth career U.S. Open? Scroll down to check out the rest of the seeds for the women's singles U.S. Open tournament.
