Barrett Ricks, Georgia Murder Suspect, Allegedly Threw Friend Isaac Herrington Off Balcony

Murder Suspect Threw Friend Off Balcony: Police

He had a short temper, and it was a long way down.

Barrett Ricks, 24, was arrested and charged with murder Wednesday after Dunwoody, Ga., police said he threw his friend off a 5th-floor balcony during a fight.

According to WSB-TV, police responding to reports of a fight at an apartment complex initially thought the victim, 31-year-old Isaac Herrington, had committed suicide. Witnesses told police otherwise.

"It appears that the suspect, Mr. Ricks, assaulted the victim, Mr. Herrington, and after he assaulted him, proceeded to push him or throw him over the balcony from the 5th floor down to the ground below," Dunwoody police officer Tim Fecht told the station.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Ricks lives at the complex where the alleged murder took place.

Herrington grew up in Mobile, Ala., and had only recently moved to Atlanta, relatives told WSB.

"He was just a fine man, and his life was taken from him," the victim's mother told the station. "That's all we can say."

In July, a man was arrested after throwing a crate containing a Yorkshire terrier off the second-story balcony of a Marietta, Ga., motel "in a fit of rage." The dog was seriously injured in the fall, which was captured on surveillance video.

In 2006, a man killed his two sons, ages 4 and 8, by throwing them over the 15th-floor balcony of a Florida hotel, before jumping to his death.
