By all accounts, it was a good weekend to be at the Alamodome. The San Antonio venue housed its second annual Festival People en Espanol and brought in thousands with its mix of regional, pop and reggaeton estrellas.

Blending in a variety of top Latin artists, the People Festival drew in fans from all across the country. Night one proved to be a major highlight, with performances from Prince Royce, Maite Perroni and the legendary Gloria Estefan.

Maite was Saturday’s kickoff act and debuted several songs from her new Eclipse de Luna album. Her set included the hit bachata single “Tu y Yo,” as well as some serious choreography from a group of sexy dancers.

Gloria stepped on the stage not too long after, to thunderous applause and a crowd singalong. This weekend happened to mark the Cubana icon’s birthday, so before singing a note she was serenaded by mariachis and celebrity well-wishers.

Prince Royce closed the night out with some high-end pyrotechnics. Taking full advantage of the Alamodome’s Jumbotron, he created an interactive version of his hit ballad “Darte Un Beso.” Royce also flossed a very sleek ensemble, donning a black leather jacket and sky-high spikey hair.

The Festival’s day events were just as exciting, with special novela panels and a guest appearance from Jencarlos Canela. There were also discussions about Latino fashions, autograph sessions and special prize giveaways.

Night two got rolling with a variety of massive headliners. Wisin y Yandel proved their solidarity, performing as a unit and flooring the crowd with re-imagined versions of their hits.

3Ball MTY earned high praise from the Festival’s younger attendees, rousing the crowd with their unique blend of techno and regional music. Selena Quintanilla’s ex, Chris Perez, also got a Sunday night slot, bringing a nice touch of rock and hard guitars to the event.

But Sunday’s biggest headliner was undoubtedly Demi Lovato. A Texas native herself, she earned a ton of hometown love and added a mainstream pop element that was sorely missing last year.

“Texas is my home state, it’s amazing to be performing here,” an excited Lovato said before her set. “It feels so great to be back!”
