Are 'Tia & Tamera' Identical Twins? Girls Get DNA Test To Find Out For Sure (VIDEO)

Are 'Tia & Tamera' Identical Or Fraternal Twins?

After 35 years together, Tia and Tamera Mowry realized suddenly that they didn't know if they were actually identical twins. They'd assumed it -- they do look a lot alike, after all -- but had never gotten medical confirmation. And so, on the latest episode of "Tia & Tamera," they answered the question once and for all.

Back in 1978, when the girls were born, there wasn't a way to know for sure, But now, there is a quick genetic test that will say one way or the other. They found themselves afraid that it would change everything if they discovered they were fraternal twins.

“I’m afraid it’s going to say, ‘You’re not identical,’ and that thought really scares me. I would feel like my life was a lie," Tia admitted. But that's not what the test said. Tia read the results, "Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry share identical DNA profiles in all systems tested.”

In other words, they are 100% identical twins. The DNA analyst told them that there could be any number of reasons why they don't look even more alike -- it most likely stems back to any minor trauma experienced during birth, like compression through the birth canal, or even how they shared the womb.

While it might seem obvious that they turned out to be identical, it's not always the case. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen look so much alike they played the same character on "Full House," and yet they're actually fraternal twins.

The identical "Tia & Tamera" continue their twin-ventures every Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on Style.
