Katherine Heigl is heading back to the small screen. The former "Grey's Anatomy" star will helm a CIA drama pilot for NBC.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Heigl will play a CIA officer who goes from the field to becoming the president's daily briefer.
Alexi Hawley of "The Following" will write the series. THR describes the series as "Scandal" meets "The West Wing."
"The story is not only compelling and intelligent but a look behind the curtain at the CIA we haven't seen before in film or television,” Heigl said in a statement, according to TVLine. "I am thrilled and honored to have been asked to be a part of developing these stories and this character and bringing it all to life. NBC has been a true partner in their passion and support for the show that we’ve dreamed of making and I could not be happier about joining forces with them. Together, with our brilliant writer Alexi Hawley, I believe we are going to make great television!"
The project has been ordered as a put-pilot, meaning that if NBC doesn't air it, the network will have to pay a penalty. The untitled drama is targeted for a potential fall 2014 premiere.
