Andy Samberg: 'Amy Poehler Is My Hero'

Andy Samberg is known for being funny, but before the former "Saturday Night Live" star and Lonely Island frontman takes on a leading man role on Fox's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," he's getting serious. Sort of.

When asked why he chose to sign on for a TV show so soon after exiting "SNL," Samberg got a little mushy talking about fellow "SNL" alum and current "Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler being his inspiration. "She's the best, and I try to do everything she does as best I can," Samberg said with a laugh.

"There's no one who handles things better, in my opinion, than Amy. Across the board. She's my hero."

And since "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" creators Mike Schur and Dan Goor both come from Amy Poehler's "Parks and Recreation," it was a no-brainer for Samberg.

"They asked me with no script, just a sort of premise, if I wanted to do it, and I said that I was not at all interested in doing television, but I would definitely do it with them, yes."
