Daniel Rhoney, Elizabeth Fowler Charged With Murder: Teens Allegedly Shot Woman In The Head

Teen, Pregnant Girlfriend Allegedly Shot Mom In The Head

A 17-year-old boy and his pregnant, 16-year-old girlfriend have been charged with attempted murder after police discovered the boy's mother shot in the head.

Daniel Rhoney, the victim’s son, and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Fowler, told deputies that they found Sherri Rhoney suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived at the Cooksville, N.C., home, according to WGHP.

"She's a very helpful woman. I'm seven months pregnant and she has done everything for me and my child. I can't believe somebody would hurt her," Fowler told WSOC.

But authorities had a different story.

“They lied to you,” Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid told WSOC. “No doubt in my mind about that.”

Police say an off-duty officer driving by around 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, noticed Rhoney lying on the front lawn, covered in blood. After being rushed to a nearby hospital, Rhoney told police that the teens shot her after a fight, according to WCNC. The victim remains in the hospital.

Both teens are scheduled to appear in court Friday, the Charlotte Observer reports.
