After last month's Video Music Awards, the person whom everyone couldn't stop talking about was the 20-year-old former "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus. Cyrus' headline-making performance of her hit song "We Can't Stop" caught the eye of celebrities from Kelly Clarkson to James Van Der Beek -- and even Kanye West.
When Cyrus announced on Twitter that she was leaving the awards show early, rumors began swirling that she was heading to the studio to record with Kanye. According to producer Mike WiLL Made It, the man behind Cyrus' "We Can't Stop," the rumors are true.
"We went to the studio with Kanye so we went right back to work," Mike WiLL revealed in an interview on MTV’s RapFix Live. "We watched the VMAs a little bit but we went straight to the studio."
When asked by host Sway Calloway if the studio session was for a rumored "Black Skinhead" remix, he responded, "We are working on that. It's about done. We're just touching the beat up a little bit. It's about done, it's about there. It's sounding crazy too."
"Black Skinhead" is the lead single off of Kanye's 2013 album "Yeezus." The track has the 36-year-old rapper critiquing race relations with lyrics like, "They see a black man with a white woman / At the top floor they gone come to kill King Kong / Middle America packed in / Came to see me in my black skin." The choice to include Cyrus on the single's remix is an interesting one as she has come under fire as of late for appropriating black culture for personal profit. Mike WiLL noted that Kanye told Cyrus she "did right" with the VMAs performance.
Mike WiLL, who recently had Cyrus rapping on his own track "23," also took the chance to defend Cyrus' boundary-pushing VMA performances saying, "It's entertainment. She does pop music so she did exactly what she was supposed to do. She made the world talk about her for over a week."
Cyrus' recently released tracklist for her upcoming fourth studio album showcases the young singer's desire to transition from past pop hits such as "Party in the U.S.A." to an edgier hip-hop sound. Due out on Oct. 4, "BANGERZ" includes collaborations with rappers Big Sean, French Montana, Ludacris, and Nelly.
