Pat Robertson Is CEO Of Regent University Following Carlos Campo's Resignation

Televangelist Pat Robertson will be taking the wheel of Regent University as the school faces the sudden resignation of its president, Carlos Campo, a mere three weeks after the beginning of the term.

Robertson founded Regent in 1978, and Campo has been president since 2010. The unexpected resignation has provoked much speculation about the reason behind it, though Campo told The Virginian Pilot that, "It's not the result of any moral or fiscal issue on my part or the university."

The Pilot reported that Campo wouldn't go into detail, as he had "signed a clause restricting what he could say."

A Regent spokeswoman told The Pilot that "the school's bylaws state that the chancellor will serve as CEO if there's a vacancy in the presidency," and so Robertson has stepped in.

A statement from Daniel Sellers, chair of the Regent Board of Trustees, thanked Campos, saying that the board is "very appreciative of Carlos' work these past five years and in particular, his role in developing new partnerships and friendships at the local, national and global level. ... The board is grateful for his endeavors which have enhanced our community."

Campo served as the first Latino president of a regionally accredited Christian university in the United States.

Regent has not yet released a time frame for finding a replacement.
