Queen Maxima Gives The Butterfly Clip A Royal Twist (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Queen Maxima Whips Out An Unexpected '90s Hair Accessory

While most of us exiled our butterfly clips to the trash bin by 2002, Queen Maxima proves that no hair accessory is too passé for a royal.

The Dutch queen headed to Madrid today to meet the Spanish prime minister and the royal family (including Princess Letizia!) at Zarzuela Palace sporting a teased low ponytail topped off with a butterfly clip. And here we thought our sparkly neon hair accessories would forever remain a fond middle school memory... (OK, so maybe Maxima's was a much more refined take than our claw-clip versions.)

Maxima has a flair for the dramatic, generally opting for bright colors, fun prints and flamboyant hats. So consider us convinced on the matter of the butterfly clip. BRB, running out to Walgreens to buy our own.
