1.3 Tons Of Cocaine In 31 Suitcases Seized On Air France Flight

French police thought there was something up when they found 31 unmarked suitcases on a flight from Venezuela -- and they were right.

The suitcases contained 1.3 tons of pure cocaine, or about $270 million worth, Bloomberg reports.

The Sept. 11 discovery -- made public on Saturday -- came on an Air France flight from Caracas to Paris.

The colorful, anonymous bags didn't belong to any of the people onboard the flight, CNN reports. Still, six yet-unnamed suspects were taken into custody by French authorities.

Meanwhile, another cocaine investigation was wrapping up on the ground. Cops seized another 881 pounds of cocaine from a truck bound for Luxembourg. There is reportedly a connection between the two cases, but few details were released this weekend.

Police believe they have thwarted a massive drug smuggling ring, BBC reports. It was the biggest drug haul ever made in the Paris area, Manuel Valls, France's Interior minister, told the network.
