This Colorful Home Proves That 'Kid-Friendly' Can Still Be Cool And Stylish (PHOTOS)

A House That Proves 'Kid-Friendly' Can Still Be Cool

Good design doesn't have to be off-limits, and that's what Michelle and David Kohanzo proved in the October issue of HGTV Magazine. They created a fabulous and kid-friendly home in Barrington, Illinois for their young family of six that's comfortable, colorful, durable and most of all -- fun.

Michelle's no stranger to fabulous kids' gear (she's a designer for The Land of Nod) and she's definitely not afraid of color. In fact, she gave her kitchen cabinets a new look with a coat of pale pink and her dining room is currently lime green. We even learned a decor trick or two from this stylish family -- Michelle reupholsters armchairs with blankets for a lived-in look. Our favorite space? Her three youngest -- all boys-- share a dormitory-style bedroom with funky patterned bedding and vintage maps on the wall. Also, Michelle's bedroom becomes a family hangout when the kids throw blankets over the metal frame of her Anthropologie canopy bed to build a fort.
