Chicharito Goal Lifts Manchester United Past Liverpool, Overshadows Luis Suarez Return (VIDEO)

WATCH: Chicharito Downs Liverpool

At the first whistle, it was Luis Suarez's return to the Liverpool starting lineup that drew attention. After 90 minutes, Chicharito's spot in Manchester United's first eleven had proved the most pivotal place.

The 25-year-old Mexico striker scored the lone goal in United's 1-0 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening. With the Capital One Cup clash scoreless into the second half, Javier Hernandez put the home side in front shortly after the break. Losing defender Jose Enrique on a corner kick from Wayne Rooney, Hernandez volleyed home the game-winning score with his right foot after Steven Gerrard missed a chance to head the ball clear.

The third round League Cup affair marked Suarez's first appearance for Liverpool since being suspended 10 games for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last season and being the focus of constant transfer speculation during the summer.

David Moyes gave Hernandez the nod because Robin Van Persie remained unavailable due to a groin injury.
