Samantha Lewthwaite Interpol Arrest Notice Issued At Request Of Kenya

Interpol Issues Arrest Notice For British Woman

The Associated Press reporters Interpol has issued an arrest warrant for a British woman after a request from Kenya:

Rumors swirled during and after the attack on the Westgate Mall complex in Nairobi this week of British and American citizens' involvement in the coordinated siege. The BBC reports, however, that Lewthwaite's arrest notice comes in connection to alleged offenses from 2011, and not from involvement in the Westgate attack.

Lewthwaite, 29, is the widow of suicide bomber Germaine Lindsay, who killed himself as part of the London Underground attacks in July 2005. Media reports have referred to her as the "white widow" after a series of allegations involving attacks across Africa.

PARIS (AP) — Interpol has issued an arrest notice for Samantha Lewthwaite, the fugitive Briton whom news media have dubbed the "white widow."

The international police agency says the notice was issued at the request of Kenya, where she is wanted on charges of possessing explosives and conspiracy to commit a felony in December 2011.

Lewthwaite was married to one of the suicide bombers who attacked London's transport network in 2005.

She is wanted by Kenyan authorities over alleged involvement in a plot to bomb holiday resorts there.

News media speculated about her possible involvement in last week's attack on a Nairobi mall after a Kenyan minister said a British woman was in the group. There has been no evidence to link her to the attack.
