BB Gun-Toting Woman Shot By Cops Critically Wounded

Chicago police shot and critically wounded a BB gun-toting woman in Pilsen after she pointed the weapon at officers Thursday night.

Police came to the 1000 block of West 19th Street around 10:40 p.m. responding to calls of a person with a gun, the Sun-Times reports.

Officers watched the woman walk a short distance near Cullerton and Morgan before heading into an alley where they later found her hiding behind garbage cans, according to NBC Chicago.

When police approached the woman in the alley and identified themselves, she allegedly pointed a gun at the officers, prompting them to fire multiple times, according to ABC Chicago. Police recovered a BB gun at the scene and the woman, who has not yet been named, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

As with all police-involved shootings, the Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the incident.
