John Mulaney has a new sitcom on Fox. The network announced it has ordered "Mulaney" (working title) to series.
Mulaney will write and star in the multi-camera sitcom opposite Martin Short. The project, which is partly based on Mulaney's life, was previously in the works at NBC, but the network passed on the sitcom. Comedy veteran Andy Ackerman will direct the first episode.
"John is one of the sharpest and most skilled next-generation comedic voices out there, who also happens to be surrounded by the best of the best on this new show," Kevin Reilly, chairman of entertainment for Fox, said in a statement. "I am personally thrilled to be working with Lorne Michaels again, a friend and show business hero who knows better than anyone how to build a show around talent. Add in the comedy magic of Marty Short and the seasoned hand of Andy Ackerman, and I believe we have the makings of something really special here.”
The show is set in New York and follows an aspiring comedian (Mulaney) who is coming of age under the influence of his boss (Short), roommates and neighbors.
Mulaney, Lorne Michaels, Mulaney, David Miner, Dave Becky, Andrew Singer and Ackerman will serve as executive producers.
