Get Into This: Rihanna Reclaims Twerking, Boozy Popcorn And More

It's the top of the week, and if you're like us, a little Monday motivation is in order. Here are five things the editors of HuffPost Black Voices are turning to for inspiration, help, and downtime in the days to come.

Ok so, full disclosure, there are more than a few moments in this video that I particularly enjoyed (1:05, 1:44, 1:45, 3:06 to be specific), but those aren't the only reasons why I'm really loving Rhi Rhi's latest. I get how 'twerking,' as exhibited across black America in recent years, has often been symptomatic of bigger, societal ills (sexism, misogyny, male-privilege, exploitation), but the rhythmic movements definitely have distinct African roots. The internal dialogue that needed to be had amongst our people about the evolution of this kind of dancing never really happened in earnest and now, the hella-appropriative mainstream popular culture has convinced the world that it's just a trend invented by a Disney star. Rihanna's 'Pour It Up,' while subversive and problematic in many ways, is also equal parts a statement and a reclamation of sorts. It's Rhianna's way of saying "this is ours," and for that, I appreciate her.

I love anything you can personalize, customize or monogram! That's why my smartphone case is one of my favorite things. Thanks to UnCommon I was able to turn an Instagram photo of my husband and I into a super-sleek case in a matter of minutes (see photo above). It's definitely a conversation starter, and it means I can always have my adorable hubby in the palm of hand. Wink wink!

Halloween is still a few weeks away, and while the day promises to bring enough sweet treats to last throughout the year, I've admittedly already got a head start. But my guilty pleasure -- Kim Crawford x Populence Pinot Noir Chocolate Drizzle popcorn -- isn't your average Halloween fare, combining sweet and salty in a grown-up version of the classic movie-night pairing of popcorn and chocolate. The collaboration between the New Zealand winemaker and gourmet popcorn purveyor launched this summer and has been available by way of the New York-based shop ever since, but Kim Crawford also has the recipe for making your own at home.

Ok, I know I should be watching the news and paying attention to the government shutdown, but let's be honest, politics get boring. Even though I wasn't really planning on watching -- or enjoying -- Bravo's "I Dream Of NeNe," the show has me hooked. I'm already a bit of a Bravo addict, and I live for a moment when NeNe is throwing shade. But this show is pure entertainment, between the bridesmaids' cat fights, NeNe's hilarious commentary and the obvious love between the Atlanta housewife and her husband Gregg. The show brings drama and black love together in a pretty perfect way. Plus, it's a great way to get your mind off the very depressing daily news.
