Right-wing Christian organization The Family Leader is digging its heels as firmly into the ground as they can in response to recent social and political gains by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) activists and allies in the western world.
Earlier this week, officials for the group released a statement of vehement opposition to the trajectory of the LGBT movement, highlighting nine prominent gains made by LGBT activists and LGBT-related incidents through a conservative Christian lens on their website. These include framing California's bill benefiting transgender minors as: "a bill was passed that allows boys to use the girls’ bathrooms/locker rooms, and vice versa."
The article opens with:
All across the nation, Christians are being targeted by homosexual activists who’s agenda is clear: approve of my lifestyle or pay the consequences! At first, the cases were few and far between. Now the number of cases are building, and the collective threat is growing, with the goal of suffocating Christians’ vocal opposition to promoting a lifestyle which is not consistent with their faith.
On its official website, The Family Leader is described as a group that "champions the principle that God is the ultimate leader of the family. Our goal... is to honor and glorify God –- not a political party, not a candidate, and not a program. The Family Leader is a Christ-centered organization that leads with humility and service to strengthen and protect the family."
As Joe. My. God. pointed out, The Family Leader seems to be most upset over the influence LGBT individuals have had over the shutdown of various homophobic and anti-gay businesses -- most notably Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Oregon, a bakery which sparked international controversy for turning away a lesbian bride-to-be who sought a wedding cake, and Chymorvah Hotel, the British bed and breakfast which denied a double room to a gay couple in 2008.
The Family Leader's comments strongly echo those of the American Family Association's Bryan Fischer, who recently claimed that a "homosexual mafia" is the real reason behind Sweet Cakes By Melissa's closing up shop earlier this year.
The article ends with an out-of-context quote by Winston Churchill, stating: "If you do not fight when you have a chance of winning, you will eventually fight when you have no hope of winning, because it will be better to die than to live."
What do you think about these claims by The Family Leader?
