Anyone who has a pet knows that the relationship between animals and humans is truly special -- and no one can attest to that more than Jill Brzezinski-Conley, who counts her fluffy white dog Honeybear as her constant companion.

The pup has been a consistent source of smiles for Brzezinski-Conley as she fights breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with the day before turning 32. Since then, Brzezinski-Conley has gone through 16 rounds of chemotherapy, endured radiation and undergone a double mastectomy and five other surgeries. She was in remission for a year and a half before the cancer spread into her sternum and became stage IV bone cancer.

It's been a rough few years, but Brzezinski-Conley has found joy through blessings in her life and, of course, the companionship of Honeybear.

"A dog just has that instinct that you're sick. And ever since I have been sick, whenever we walk the dog, Honeybear is the most lovable dog ever, but she's so protective over me," Brzezinski-Conley said. "It's so bizarre, but she knows that her mommy's sick. It's just awesome."

Fighting cancer with Honeybear at her side has been a lesson in the healing power of animals.

"Going through this, it just shows you how much your animal loves you," Brzezinski-Conley said. "The days I felt the worst, she always knew how to put a smile on my face."
