'Arrow' Introduces Black Canary, Drops Tons Of DC Universe References (VIDEO)

By the end of the hour, it was very clear that "Arrow" was representing the DC Universe. There were references to DC Comics throughout, starting with the debut of Black Canary -- complete with a technological take on her iconic sonic scream.

Over at ScreenCrush, Kevin Fitzpatrick was loving the "DC Explosion." He asked, "How cool was that, to have the same ‘Arrow’ hour that saw a proper introduction to the Black Canary (complete with sonic scream!) also namedrop Ra’s Al Ghul, Amazo, Metamorpho, Sin, Jean Loring and potentially more? No wonder we kept seeing the number 52 pop up all over the place, this had to be the most DC-heavy hour by a brickton!”

Black Canary arrived on the scene just in time to save Oliver from Laurel's SWAT team, and's Noel Kirkpatrick was loving this new vigilante. “I'm intrigued by the way 'Arrow' seems to be positioning her as a defender of women ... and the potential gender politics that will open up for the show as a result," he wrote. "I'm hoping against hope that her lack of a no-kill rule will allow for Arrow to finally engage in a decent discussion about the nature of justice.”

Come back for more DC action in "Arrow," Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
