The Secrets To Success, From Dr. Gail Saltz (VIDEO)

According to Psychiatrist Dr. Saltz, confidence is a very complicated issue. We are all born with a certain biological temperament. Some people's temperaments are more easygoing and laid back, while others are born very sensitive. If you are a more sensitive person, it may be tougher to take criticism constructively and be confident.

Upbringing is another important key to confidence. If you are born into a home where personal confidence is built and reinforced by parents and siblings, it is then, naturally, easier to be confident as an adult. In a home where you were put down a lot or made to feel insecure rather than confident would be much tougher to overcome as an adult.

Dr. Gail Saltz says that everyone can work towards building confidence. You can always improve upon your situation despite the hand you were dealt. Therapy is also often a helpful tool to understanding why you do not feel confident. Identifying what factors have stood in the way can be incredibly helpful for finding new confidence builders later in life.

Be sure to surround yourself with positive people, and put in the hard work to accomplish your goals. This sense of personal accomplishment is what ultimately builds a feeling of confidence, but you have to be willing to work at it!
