Football Food, In Order From Worst To Best (PHOTOS)

Football season is in full-swing, and we hope you're feeding your friends appropriately. The most important thing about game day snacks is that there be a bounty of them. You should prepare to feed a small army, even if you're only inviting over five of your closest friends. Why does football make us so hungry? Maybe it's stress, maybe it's adrenaline, maybe it's camaraderie and America. Whatever the reason, we've been eating a lot of football food lately, and we realized that we have some opinions about which are best.

Without further ado, the most popular game day snacks, in order from worst to best. (And no, a snackadium doesn't count. That is a presentation, not a food.)

  • 15 Dessert
Listen, dessert, everyone loves you every single other day. Just let savory snacks have their moment in the sun.
  • 14 Pizza
Oh, back off pizza. You get every other day, too.
  • 13 Shrimp Cocktail
I have no idea how this delicate snack started getting included at football parties, but it's almost impossible to deny that people demolish it upon sight.
  • 12 Crudite Platter
Laugh all you want, but you guys have seen a room full of sports fans scrape the ranch dressing bowl with celery until it's clean. Plus, these are probably some of the only vegetables you will get to eat all day.
  • 11 Chili
We're always told this is a must, but do we all really want to sit in a room with our closest friends and our individual gastrointestinal reactions to this food?
  • 10 Hoagies/Subs/Grinders
They're a little sloppy for jumping up and down cheering while you eat, but a hoagie stuffed to the gill is one of the things we always crave on game day. Bonus points if it's six feet long.
  • 9 Sausages/Hot Dogs
Sausages and peppers, brats, hot dogs, pigs in blankets -- football menus really love their tubes of meat. And so do we.
  • 8 Jalapeño Poppers
The holy trinity: fried, cheesy, spicy.
  • 7 Pulled Pork/Brisket Sandwiches
Stewing meat until it falls apart and then stuffing it in a sandwich is just perfect, prototypical football food.
  • 6 Meatballs
Show me a football party without a crock pot of meatballs and I'll show you an invitation to a better party.
  • 5 Sliders
Sliders might seem kind of fussy at first, but they're actually perfect game day food. You can eat one in two bites, cheer for a while, then pick up a whole new sandwich and start again. You can even keep a free hand for high-fives.
  • 4 Wings

They're certainly not the easiest food to eat, but there is a certain satisfaction derived from eating meat off the bone while shouting at the TV.
  • 3 Potato Skins
Not just one of the best game day foods, one of the best foods. On earth. Period. Full stop.
  • 2 Nachos
Salty, cheesy, spicy, creamy, crunchy -- nachos are a nearly perfect food and one of our favorite ways to feed a crowd of our friends.
  • 1 Dip

Let's get real -- dip is the absolute, supreme ruler of football foods. From spinach-artichoke dip, to salsa, to guacamole, to onion dip, to queso -- other snacks need not apply for the number one position.
