Jason Kidd Sure Seemed To Intentionally Drop His Drink To Get Nets A Free Timeout (VIDEO)

WATCH: Did Jason Kidd Trick Refs?

Those criticizing Jason Kidd's in-game inaction may need to revise their rebukes of the Brooklyn Nets' first-year coach. The Nets were attempting to pull off a fourth quarter rally against the Lakers in Brooklyn on Wednesday night when Kidd seemed to deliver a free timeout with a surreptitious slapstick move.

The Lakers were leading 96-94 with 8.3 seconds remaining and Jodie Meeks at the free throw line when Kidd appeared say "Hit me" to Brooklyn point guard Tyshawn Taylor. On cue, Taylor knocked into Kidd, who promptly dropped his beverage on the floor. As the allegedly accidental mess was cleaned up, the Nets, who were out of timeouts, had a reprieve to get organized for a final possession.

Unfortunately, the extra work of those with the towels went for naught. Meeks made his second free throw and Paul Pierce missed Brooklyn's final shot. The Lakers held on for a 99-94 win and the Nets dropped to 4-11 on the season. Following the loss, Kidd was coy about his gamesmanship.

"Cup slipped out of my hand I was getting Ty," Kidd said during his press conference, via CBS Sports. "Sweaty palms. I was never good with the ball."
