Teens Charged In Death Of Friend, Jane Modlesky, Who Drove Drunk, Crashed Car

Several friends of a teenage girl who died in a car crash are facing criminal charges for allowing her to drive drunk.

Jane Modlesky, 17, was killed in July, when she crashed an SUV into a tree in Glastonbury, Conn., NBC Connecticut reported.

Prior to the wreck, Modlesky was in the 2008 Honda Pilot with four boys, ages 16 to 17, one of whom was driving. The driver dropped off one friend, then got out at his own home and handed the wheel over to another boy.

The two remaining boys later exited the car and turned the wheel over to Modlesky. They "were well aware that [Jane] was highly intoxicated, however, despite knowing this, allowed her to operate the vehicle," police said, according to WFSB.

A half a mile later, Modlesky struck a tree and died at the scene. Her blood-alcohol level was later determined to have been 0.27 percent, more than three times the legal limit for adults and 13 times the legal limit for drivers under 21, The Courant reported.

On Thursday, the last two boys in the car were charged with second-degree reckless endangerment.

Additionally, the two boys who drove the vehicle that night were charged with violation of passenger restrictions and operating a motor vehicle between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
