When Miley Cyrus announced last week (in an almost-naked rodeo outfit that included buck teeth and a bleach-blond wig, no less) that she was set to headline an episode of "MTV Unplugged," it came with buzz about potential surprise guests. Now, according to E! News, it's rumored that Madonna will be among the performers to join Cyrus.
There's no word on what the cross-generational divas will perform, but E! cites sources who reportedly witnessed Madonna rehearsing with Cyrus on a Hollywood soundstage Monday. If the story holds true, it'll mark the second time this week that Madonna has taken up with a buzzy artist, following her joining Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love" performance at the Grammys.
Over the last decade, Madonna has frequently joined forces with a handful of trendy acts. In addition to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, she brought Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. to help her at the 2012 Super Bowl, took to the Grammy stage for a celebrated performance with Gorillaz and De La Soul in 2006, released "Me Against the Music" with Britney Spears in 2003, and swapped spit with Spears and Christina Aguilera at the MTV Video Music Awards that same year.
Cyrus, who compared herself to Madonna in an interview last month, will tape "Unplugged" on Jan. 28. It airs on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 9 p.m. on MTV.
