Brenda Wood Slams Critics Of Coca-Cola's 'It's Beautiful' Commercial

When Coca-Cola ran their "It's Beautiful" commercial during the 2014 Super Bowl, the beverage corporation sent shockwaves of indignation through social media.

The outrage over the commercial was, at best, appalling. Based on the commercial's inclusion of families of a variety of ethnicities, as well as a gay family, Twitter users began using the hashtag #SpeakAmerican and claiming that they would begin boycotting Coca-Cola.

In response, 11Alive's Brenda Wood took some time during her "Last Word" segment to slam the outrageous response to the "It's Beautiful" commercial -- and we absolutely LOVE what she had to say.

"America was built on opening its arms to the world," Wood stated. "The quote on the Statue of Liberty doesn't say, 'Give me your English-speaking only, Christian-believing, heterosexual masses,' it says, 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, tempest tossed. Have we forgotten that everyone of us Americans -- except for Native Americans -- are descendants of foreigners?"
