These people are really serious about their fried chicken.
About 20 Chick-fil-A aficionados in suburban Chicago braved a snow storm and wind chills dipping below zero overnight Wednesday for a chance at being one of 100 people to receive a year of free weekly chicken sandwiches from the popular fast-food franchise, WGN reports.
According to Patch, the chicken lovers set up overnight camps -- with tents, lawn chairs, TVs, heaters and even couches -- outside the Elmhurst, Ill. store beginning as early as 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, nearly 24 hours before the store's 6 a.m. opening Thursday.
One Chick-fil-A fan told CBS Chicago the Elmhurst opening marked the 22nd time she and her husband have attended the opening of one of chain's franchises. She said it was "just a lot of fun" to reunite with friends they'd met at other new stores.
"There’s nothing like an opening when there’s 6 to 8 inches of snow on the ground, and friends all around," Heidi from Naperville told the station.
The chain offers a weekly free sandwich (plus waffle fries and a drink) for a year to its first 100 customers who are 18 or older every time it opens a new franchise. The tradition has attracted a loyal following of participants, including one Florida man who had taken part in some 110 openings as of last November.
