It would take a very bad human being to drench Gizmo the puppy with hot sauce to stop his whining.
Ephrian Myles, of Sarasota, Fla., is accused of doing just that to the 3-month-old Dachshund-Chihuahua mix. The hot sauce flooded Gizmo's eyes and throat as Myles' girlfriend raced the pooch to a nearby fire department for help, according to a Sarasota Police press release.
But Gizmo is a survivor. The department's Facebook page provided photos of the pup at the vet (featured below), and reports that he's eating on his own again after nebulizer and antibiotic treatments.
But the question remains: Why on earth would someone want to hurt this face?
Police say Gizmo had a history of seizures. At about 1 a.m., Sunday, the little guy began to yelp and seize. Myles' girlfriend told investigators that he became annoyed with Gizmo, grabbed him and covered his entire body with hot sauce.
The girlfriend took Gizmo to a fire department, and officers said the puppy's eyes were swelled shut and he was having difficulty breathing. Gizmo went limp in the presence of officers, who washed him off with water and a towel. He's expected to make a full recovery.
Myles, meanwhile, was arrested and charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty. His bond was set at $5,000 and he was taken to the Sarasota County Jail.
