William Shatner abruptly deleted his Twitter account March 12, signing off with a short farewell:
Fans took to Twitter to express their grief:
Vulcan salute. RT @WilliamShatner After much deliberation I've made the decision to leave Twitter. It's not an easy decision.

::cancels all plans for the day::
Twitter and William Shatner were like soul mates. I'm going to miss his snark so much.

UPDATE: Shatner came back to Twitter less than 12 hours later, saying he "made a mistake:"
Made a bad midnight decision. Pressured by too many things on my plate. In a pique, I quit Twitter. Boy did I make a mistake. My Best, Bill

Shatner certainly isn't the first celebrity to deactivate his account. Amanda Bynes, Adele and John Mayer are just a few celebs who have bid Twitter farewell in the past.
