"When love leaves, ask her to leave the door open behind her."
From the inspirational and creative minds of Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye comes a poignant interpretation of love in its many forms. Although the video was created in 2012, their description of the complex and dizzying experience of falling in and out of romance is too good not to revisit. In "When Love Arrives," "love" takes on a human form, standing in for every past partner and lover of Kay and Kaye.
The poem perfectly illustrates the ebbs and flows of bittersweet heartaches to the all-consuming intimacy of love. Whether love "uses the word 'boobs'" in front of your parents or "looks great in lingerie but still likes to wear her retainer," we can all relate to some part of this riveting poem -- even the sad realization that "love sh*ts."
It comes as a refreshing reminder that "love stretches like a trampoline" and even when we think it's gone for good -- as long as we ask it to "leave the door open on the way out," it never fails to show up again.
