In director Wally Pfister's new film, "Transcendence," Johnny Depp stars as an artificial intelligence (A.I.) researcher who is exploring the idea of uploading human consciousness into a computer. It's a complicated theme -- one that taps into the conversation surrounding A.I., computer sentience and what is sometimes called "the Singularity."

To sort it all out and explain where science ends and science fiction begins, Pfister joined HuffPost Live's Josh Zepps.

"Most of the things we present in the film are plausible but not necessarily going to happen," the director said. "It was important to me while putting out such wild concepts to have some basis in science, or at least have some understanding as to how far I was stretching the truth."
