Skydiver Dies After Crash-Landing Near Easter Egg Hunt

A skydiver was killed after he crash-landed into a backyard in Washington Township, N.J. Sunday afternoon.

Arkady Shenker, a 49-year-old Brooklyn man, survived the initial impact, but died of his injuries at a hospital around 3:30 p.m., according to NBC 10.

The Dye family was holding their annual Easter egg hunt nearby, and witnessed the accident.

"We all started running to see what we could do to help him," Lamont Dye told WPVI.

Shenker, who was an experienced skydiver who had jumped more than 350 times, was wearing a "wing suit," which makes it possible for a skydiver to move forward during the descent.

NBC 10 reports that the man's parachute did not open.

Shenker was skydiving on Sunday with Freefall Adventures out of Monroe Township. The company's website states they are "the most experienced and best equipped skydiving school."

In 2011, Rutledge Mayor Scott Shields died while skydiving with the same company, according to the Delco Times.
