The Los Angeles NAACP chapter has decided not to present Donald Sterling with a lifetime achievement award after the Clippers owner was caught on tape making racist comments to his girlfriend.

The branch originally came under fire when Sterling was still listed as a 2014 honoree Saturday night, after the controversy had been reported. However, the NAACP tweeted an update Sunday morning:

Sterling's comments have drawn criticism and outrage both inside and outside of the NBA. Magic Johnson said the incident is a "black eye" on the NBA, and President Obama called the comments "incredibly offensive."

The league said it was investigating the tape, calling the remarks "disturbing and offensive."
