Does A Religious Life Have To Include Belief In God? Religious Thinkers Respond

Is It Necessary To Believe In God To Be Religious?

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines 'religious' as a belief in god or a group of gods -- but is this a necessary component of a religious life?

Belief in God is central to many faiths, but it is harder to determine what even the self-defined "religious" really believe. The United States, for instance, is nearly 80% Christian, but belief in God appears to be somewhat on the decline.

Is it possible, though, to be religious but not believe in God? HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri discusses this fascinating question with Rev. Wil Gafney, journalist professor Robert Jensen and Maxim Schrogin, a self-identified Jewish atheist. Check out the video above.
